Winter is finally gone. The birds are singing and the trees are blooming - nature is awakening from its long winter sleep. Are you ready to get your garden back in shape?
We know we are! We are thrilled to be able to share some tips and tricks on getting your spring garden ready for the season.
Prep the garden
Cleaning is not the most exciting but essential part of the process of getting your spring garden ready for the season. Remove all the debris and get rid of weeds - just make sure that you get the roots so that weeds won't grow back.
Revitalize the soil
Winter is gone, and it is time to add moisture to the soil. Stop by Reston Farm Market to get organic soil for your specific gardening needs. Our team of gardening experts are here to help you find the right fit.
We can’t stress enough the benefits of mulch - not only it helps to prevent weeds, retain moisture, and maintain temperature of the soil, it also makes your garden look neat and beautiful. Add one to three inches of mulch to your flower beds and garden and make sure to keep the mulch a few inches from the plant stems to prevent roots from rotting. Did you know that now you can order mulch online and come pick it up at Reston Farm Market or get it delivered to your doorstep? Pick any of our highest quality colored mulch or shredded hardwood.
Pick the blooms and flower pots
We have a huge selection of spring flowers, blooms, and greens to make sure that you will find what you are looking for. So stop by Reston Farm Market and pick the ones you like - geraniums, dahlias, verbenas, petunias, fuchsias, impatiens, cosmos, portulacas, alyssums, and many more! Did we mention flower pots? Our spring collection of unique ceramic pots is sourced from local artists that will make your garden look truly one-of-a-kind.

Everyone agrees on the obvious: flowers ARE beautiful. However, not all flowers are made equal when it comes to their life-cycle and blooming habits.
You've probably heard of our weekly specials on annuals and perennials at the Reston Farm Market, but wonder what's the difference between the two categories? We are happy to "decode" the gardening language for you and look at the gardening strategies that will keep your garden full of blooms all season long.
Annuals are the plants that complete their life cycle in one year. These low-maintenance annual flowers will bloom all season, making them a great choice for containers and hanging baskets. Annual flowers are loved by many gardeners, as they prevent repetitive boredom and allow them to have a totally different garden every year. If you want to experiment with a new color scheme in your garden or try some new plants, annuals are the way to go!
At Reston Farm Market, we carry a variety of annual flowers and plants. From garden's darling petunia to sweet vanilla-like alyssum, cosmos flowers, vibrant portulaca, verbena, classic geranium, and much, much more!
Perennials flowers are designed to live for three or more years. They are perfect for those gardeners who like consistency and/or have no time to experiment with the garden. However, standard perennials have a much shorter blooming cycle compared to annuals. Try mixing different kinds to establish a blooming pattern - hibiscus, hydrangeas, daisies, gaillardias, and other perennials.
We, at Reston Farm Market, have a huge selection of both annuals and perennials to fit the needs of your unique garden. Committed to organic gardening, we also carry a variety of natural mulch, organic soil, organic plant food and natural fertilizers, and more exceptional quality gardening tools. Stop by today!
Have you thought of adding that awesome flower plant to your garden, but haven't had a chance yet? Or the new pottery you were eyeing at the Reston Farm Market the other day?
Well, we have some exciting news for you!

Organic gardening has many benefits. Most importantly, it is designed to work with the ecological systems and minimally disturb the Earth’s natural balance.
Healthy, nutritious, and chemical-free produce is one of the most obvious advantages of the organic gardening. However, there are other, more invisible benefits of organic gardening. One of them is healthier soil, which in turn, makes organic gardening more resilient and therefore more suitable for producing healthy vegetables, fruits, and roots.

The tradition of decorating eggs for Easter dates back to at least the 13th century. To this day, Easter egg hunts and egg rolling are two popular Easter traditions we are all well familiar with. After all, the egg is an ancient symbol of new life.
The Easter Bunny is said to be brought back to America in the 1700s by German immigrants. Their Easter morning tradition of a colored egg laying hare spread across the U.S., eventually evolving into what we all recognize as an Easter Bunny delivered morning eggs filled with chocolate, candy, and gifts. Kids love it!
Traditional Easter floral is fresh spring flowers such as yellow daffodils, stunning hyacinths, colorful tulips, Easter lilies, or pansies. At the Reston Farm Market, VA, we have them all! Thus, while you are getting your home ready for Easter, stop by the Reston Farm Market and Garden Center today and pick some spring joy for your home.
Every gardener knows the benefits of a mulch. Applied to the surface of the soil it helps to retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, suppress weed growth, and simply makes your garden look beautiful.
Mulch can be applied to the soil surface, around trees, paths, flower beds, and vegetable growing areas. It is also used to prevent soil erosion on slopes and in production areas for flower and vegetable crops. It is recommended to have two inches in depth of mulch.
As you are getting your garden ready for spring, it is important to pick the right kind of soil and mulch. We have a great mulch and soil sale at the Reston Farm Market. Stop by and get as much as you need!
The Reston Farm Market is opened every day from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
